Dmitry Golovanov and Jan Maksimovic, the mesmerizing creative duo who have created many magical, fragile and moving “in the moment” musical masterpieces over the past 20 years, present their 2019 duo album Thousand Seconds Of Our Life. The duo’s distinctive feature is their spontaneous creativity, imbued with wisdom, spirituality and laconicism, elegantly teetering on the line between intellect and intuition.
Both musicians are among the most prominent Lithuanian improvisational music and jazz performers, both have numerous concerts on the country’s most important stages, countless collaborations with foreign artists and a wide geography of
concerts abroad, but the most important thing for them is the live musical communication with the listener “here and now”, the experience of every second and the music being born right here, in which the listener becomes a participant
Dmitrij Golovanov is undoubtedly the most prominent and one of the best-known Lithuanian jazz pianists, with an excellent knowledge of the jazz language and mature taste. His exceptional talent has not only allowed him to take part in many
different projects, but also to find his own unique sound, both on the piano and with the use of “live” electronics. His expressiveness and unique playing style have earned him the title of one of the most notable pianists on the Baltic jazz scene. His list of achievements includes the semi-finals of the Montreux Solo Piano Competition, the finals of the European Jazz Competition, the Golden Disk Award of the Musical Union, the Birštonas Jazz Gran Prix for his contribution to Lithuanian jazz, and many others. His playing is featured on more than 15 CDs, most of which he is project leader, co-leader or arranger. Since 2022 Dmitrijus is the President of the Lithuanian Jazz Federation.
Jan Maksimovič is an outstanding example of Lithuanian jazz musicians of the middle generation. His rich sound, wide technical possibilities and bright and unexpected musical phrasing distinguish him from other saxophonists. Adding his vast experience in the field of improvisational music, the result is a stunningly expressive, even theatrical, playing that opens the hearts, souls and minds of the audience. For the past few decades Jan has been an active leader of several ensembles and has also played as a guest musician with some of the country’s best known artists. His collaborations include Tim Daisy, the Vein Trio, the National Symphony Orchestra and many others.
